SAFOD youth workhop


From 11 to 13 of September 2019, the Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) organized a training workshop on using online media to advance disability mainstreaming, targeting youths with disabilities in Malawi and their organizations affiliated to FEDOMA.

Held in the office of the Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) in Blantyre, Malawi, the training programme aimed at imparting skills in using WordPress website, Blog and other social media to advance the disability mainstreaming agenda in the Malawi.

The workshop was part of SAFOD’s regional capacity-building programme focused on familiarizing youths with disabilities with the WordPress platform, and to impart basic skills in managing a WordPress site.

The programme also aims to orient participants on the basic concepts of disability mainstreaming, and to orient selected youths with disabilities on integrating different aspects of disability rights into the disability mainstreaming agenda.

In this context, SAFOD has been training the selected youths with disabilities across the region on basic writing and journalism tools with a focus on blogging and social media.

The participants of the workshop were members of Malawi National Association of the Deaf (MANAD), Malawi Union of the blind (MUB), Epilepsy Association in Malawi as well as the FEDOMA secretariat.

A SAFOD IT Intern – recruited to coordinate the work within the selected countries – was also amongst the participants of the workshop.
